The Electrical Gentle Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band shaped in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters-multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wooden with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterised by a fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical preparations and futuristic iconography.

ELO was shaped out of Lynne’s and Wooden’s want to create fashionable rock and pop songs with classical overtones.

After Wooden’s departure in 1972, Lynne turned the band’s sole chief, arranging and producing each album whereas writing almost all of their unique materials. For his or her preliminary tenure, Lynne, Bevan and keyboardist Richard Tandy have been the group’s solely constant members.

It derived as an offshoot of Wooden’s earlier band, the Transfer, of which Lynne and Bevan have been additionally members. Throughout the Seventies and Nineteen Eighties, ELO launched a string of prime 10 albums and singles, together with two LPs that reached the highest of British charts: the disco-inspired Discovery (1979) and the science-fiction-themed idea album Time (1981).

In 1986 Lynne misplaced curiosity within the band and disbanded the group. Bevan responded by forming his personal band, ELO Half II, which later turned the Orchestra. After a short reunion from 2000–01, ELO remained largely inactive till 2014, when Lynne re-formed the band once more with Tandy as Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
