Lily James’ fitness regime for Pam & Tommy sounds intense

We’re just one day away from the premiere of the very-much-anticipated Pam & Tommy series, which retells the whirlwind romance of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. Starring in the series is Lily James, and while we’ve all been blown away by the teaser pics of her epic transformation into Pam An, it seems there was quite a bit – and by quite a bit we mean a helluva lot – of preparation that went into the iconic look.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly ahead of the show’s release, Lily revealed the details of how exactly she transformed into Pamela, which not only included a lengthy stint in the hair and makeup chair but also months of gruelling workouts.

“I worked with this amazing trainer, Matt Bevan, who worked with Daisy Ridley as well. He worked me so hard and I got really fit,” the Cinderella star said. “I felt really athletic, which I hadn’t done for a long time and there was great confidence that came from that… I feel less self-conscious on a beach now. It was really wonderful to feel like that, to feel so in my own body.”

But, Lily emphasised, the transformation didn’t come easy. “It was really tough though,” she said of her workout regime, although she says in the end it was worth it. “It was rewarding.”

As for what her fitness regime entailed, Lily explains she was put through her paces with a mixture of cardio, such as running and boxing. “He [Lily’s trainer] would make me do all my work and reading my script on a running machine,” she recalled. “And I did boxing with a really cool guy in LA, which I loved too, being physically strong like I could literally beat someone up.”

Transforming into Pamela wasn’t the only thing to come out of her workouts though. “I lost a tonne of weight,” the 32-year-old revealed, before adding: “I’ve put it all back on again though, unfortunately.”

With that in mind, it’s important to note that this is just Lily’s personal preference. Everybody is different, so take this as a reminder that weight loss or weight gain isn’t something to get too hung up about – as long as you’re happy and healthy, that’s all that matters.
