MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 15 Hamilton beats No. 10 Chandler 21-14 in Top 25 matchup

In the only MaxPreps Top 25 matchup of the week it lived up to the hype as No. 15 Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) snapped No. 10 Chandler’s (Ariz.) 45-game win streak with a 21-14 victory. The defense put pressure on Blaine Hipa all night and finished the game with 10 sacks. The biggest play came early in the fourth quarter when Dawson Hubbard scooped up a fumble setting up a seven-yard touchdown pass from Nicco Marchiol to Tre Spivey to put the Huskies up 21-14 with just over eight minutes remaining.

The win clinched the top-seed in the Open Division playoffs and gave Hamilton its second win over a Top 10 opponent as they beat Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) 25-24 when they were ranked No. 7 in September.

The Gaels, now ranked 17th in the MaxPreps Top 25, reeled off their eighth straight win since that loss beating Liberty (Henderson) 35-14 to advance to the 5A state championship. Bishop Gorman will be going for its 11th state title since 2009 on Nov. 18 at Allegiant Stadium.

No. 18 Hoover (Ala.) escaped with a 24-23 overtime win against Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) to advance to the 7A semifinals. The Bucs scored on their opening possession of overtime then stopped the Huskies on a game-winning two-point attempt. Up next for Hoover is No. 24 Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) who rolled to a 45-7 win against Oak Mountain (Birmingham). The Bucs snapped the back-to-back 7A state champs 27-game win streak with a 24-21 victory on Oct. 22.

The CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket features four Top 25 teams.

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) opens up against Norco and the Monarchs head into the postseason winning by an average margin of 37.4 points per game.

No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) hosts five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson and Los Alamitos with the winner facing the winner of No. 7 Servite (Anaheim)/Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita).

The other quarterfinal matchup features No. 13 Centennial (Corona) hosting Mission Viejo with the winner moving on to face either Mater Dei or Norco in the Nov. 19 semifinals.
